Homework time!
I know, I know, you do not like receiving homework. But if you fully utilize the allotted class time for this post, you can easily get it done. As we know, the ending of Romeo and Juliet is very sad and depressing. Both Romeo and Juliet have died and their families have found their bodies. After realizing their role in the death of their children, they decide that their feud was useless and they make up. In a comment, atleast 250 words, respond to the following prompt. Why do you think it took the loss of their children in order for the Capulets and Montagues to end their fued? What would you have done if you were in their situation? Would you have acted differently?
Eggcorns?
What are eggcorns? Eggcorns are words or phrases that are used incorrectly and have very different meanings than the word or phrase that was intended to be used. For example, a student might mean to write, "I feel as if I am taken for granite". The word they meant to use was "granted". Their first sentence would mean that people take this person for "granite" which is a material used in construction. Obviously, they do not mean that people mistake them for a construction material. In Romeo and Juliet, we see the word morning used. But what if the word mourning was used instead? How would this change the meaning? Morning is used to describe a time of a day. Mourning is used to describe the state of grief someone is in after suffering a loss. While both of these words apply to our text, switching them up changes the meaning of what is supposed to be said. Write a short comment to this post and give an example of an eggcorn that you have come across. You will have 15 minutes to write your comment.
Hello students!
Hello students! Welcome to our Shakespeare blog! We are going to use this blog in conjunction with our Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet unit. This blog will be utilized to create a class discussion. That being said, there will be a few rules. The first rule is that I expect everyone to take the full 15 minutes allotted to writing on this blog to write a complete and thorough post. The second rule is that everyone MUST participate. If you choose not to participate, you will lose all the points available for the day. The third rule is that you have to respond to the prompt. Do not copy what other people have posted and do not make fun of other people's posts. This blog is going to help get our class discussion going so have fun with it!
